About Stokes Psychological

Evidence-Based Care

I have been trained in a variety of evidence-based treatments and modalities, and utilize these interventions and principles to provide individualized care to my clients. I most often utilize behavioral, traditional cognitive behavioral, and third-wave cognitive behavioral approaches in psychotherapy.

Trauma-Informed & Affirming

I have worked extensively with youth and adults who have experienced complex trauma over the lifespan. As such, I ensure the therapeutic environment is physically and emotionally safe for all. I strive to practice cultural humility and antiracism in all interactions, and am affirming to all LGBTQIA+ community members. I serve people of all backgrounds in my practice.

About Katherine Stokes

Hello & Welcome

Welcome- I am glad you are here. My name is Katherine (Katie) Stokes, and I am a licensed clinical psychologist (License #38310). I provide holistic, responsive, and evidence-based care to children, teens, and adults. My areas of specialty include treating disruptive behaviors (e.g., physical aggression, tantrums/defiance, self-harm, substance use) in children and teens, particularly utilizing behavioral and dialectical behavior therapy approaches, and treating internalizing problems (e.g., anxiety, depression, shame, low-self-esteem) across the lifespan utilizing third-wave cognitive behavioral approaches (e.g., balancing acceptance and change, building mindfulness and emotion regulation skills, exposure). If you have any questions or wish to set up a free phone consultation, please do not hesitate to contact me directly via phone or email.

I aim to make my services available to those who need it most. I have a limited number of sliding scale appointments available for those with economic need. Don't hesitate to contact me to inquire if any sliding scale slots are currently available.

I do not- I am an out-of-network provider. However, if you have out-of-network mental health coverage, I can provide you with a superbill (a statement of your payment) to seek reimbursement with your insurance company. I suggest that you reach out to your insurance provider directly to inquire if you may be able to seek reimbursement for services in this manner.

While the financial cost is certainly higher, some benefits of working with an out-of-network provider include:

  • privacy- your insurance company will not have access to your mental health records for authorization, as they would if you used an in-network provider
  • expertise- you are able to seek out a provider with expertise specific to your presenting concerns, rather than being limited to providers that accept your insurance
  • flexibility- you are not limited by insurance rules about number of sessions allowed or types of therapy covered, so your provider can individualize your care
  • availability- private-pay clinicians often have more immediate availability

I currently provide DBT-informed therapy, such that I utilize the principles and interventions found in the DBT treatment manual to conceptualize cases and treat individuals struggling with emotional and behavioral dysregulation. However, at this time, I do not offer phone coaching or skills groups, other main components of fully-adherent DBT treatment. If this type of treatment is of interest to you, I am happy to assist you in finding the most appropriate provider.
